Ekkehard H. Schulze, LL.M. Ph.D., Attorney-at-Law, former International Judge (UN) and Presiding Judge (Commercial Court)

Ekkehard studied law in Berlin (Germany) and Cape Town (South Africa). After graduating from the University of Cape Town with an LL.M. and obtaining a Ph.D. (Dr.iur.) from the Free University of Berlin, and after a formative spell as an associate with the Chicago-based multinational law firm of Baker & McKenzie, he was appointed to the Bench. As a Judge at the Regional Court of Appeal, a municipal court, a regional court and finally as Presiding Judge at the Potsdam Commercial Court, Ekkehard acquired the art and skill of adjudication comprehensively. Eventually, he resigned from the Bench in order to commence working as an independent arbitrator.

As a highly experienced adjudicator, Ekkehard is listed by major arbitral institutions, such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC) and the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA). He is Fellow of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa). His wide arbitral experience includes, but is not limited to, international commercial law, joint ventures, corporate law, oil & gas and construction law.

Appointed by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ekkehard held office as an International Judge. He also served as Vice-President of the Independent Judicial and Prosecutorial Commission which, under the auspices of the United Nations, selected all future Supreme Court Justices in Kosovo.
